Details on Cassandra Clare’s Lady Midnight UK tour

Simon & Schuster Children’s Books UK today announces a three-way partnership for the launch event of Cassandra Clare’s upcoming UK tour to promote Lady Midnight, book one in her new Shadowhunters trilogy, The Dark Artifices.

The Shadowhunters Super Fan event will take place in Leicester Square Theatre, London, on Saturday 16th April. The 400-seat event, which sold out shortly after going on sale, will be an unmissable Shadowhunters extravaganza, made even more special by confirmation today that Dominic Sherwood, who plays Jace in the Netflix series, will attend the event.

Through working with partners, Maximum Pop! Books and London Book and Screen Week, the Super Fan Event is set to reach audiences far wider than those lucky enough to get a seat in the theatre. Maximum Pop! Books have confirmed Periscope live streaming of the event, to be fronted by TV presenter, Luke Franks, with Twitter Books, who will share the stream with their 5.7 million followers. In the Periscope, fans will get the chance to ask Cassie questions live themselves, see behind-the-scenes footage, and soak up the atmosphere at the event with Luke Franks.

Maximum Pop! Books director, Olly Meakings, says “The Shadowhunters Super Fan Event is a fantastic opportunity to use new technology like periscope to give fans of Cassie’s books worldwide a chance to take part in the day’s fun. Cassie is brilliant at using social media and technology to extend the Shadowhunters world beyond the page and to connect with her readers, and we aim to reflect this approach in Maximum Pop! Books’ partnership of the Super Fan event.”

The Shadowhunters Super Fan event will also be one of the highlights of this year’s London Book and Screen Week – a seven-day citywide landmark event bringing storytelling and the written word to life. Taking place from 11th-17th April, it is the capital’s biggest ever celebration of books, and the films, TV programmes and virtual worlds they’ve inspired.

London Book and Screen Week are running a competition for fans to win tickets to the sold out Super Fan event:

Jacks Thomas, Director of The London Book Fair which conceived and runs London Book and Screen Week explains: “Shadowhunters embodies everything London Book and Screen Week is about – brilliant books that can be enjoyed on cinema screens, TV sets and, with the live streaming of the Super Fan event, fans can experience Cassie’s UK tour as-it-happens on the screens of computers, tablets and mobile phones.” Waterstones Event Manager, Gary Deane, says: “Waterstones is delighted to be hosting what is set to be an amazing launch event for the Lady Midnight UK tour.” The periscope coverage will start at 10.00 on Saturday 16th April, follow @maxpopbooks to tune in.

Literary journalist, Anna James, will interview Cassie and Dominic on stage, before a signing session where fans can meet the stars. There will also be other activities running like Lady Midnight mini makeovers, a Shadowhunters selfie scene, make-up artists body-painting rune symbols and more.

Lady Midnight, the first book in a new Shadowhunters trilogy called The Dark Artifices, published on 8th March 2016 and its first week sales have sent it straight in to the bestseller charts in the US and UK. Widespread major media attention and fever-pitch excitement from Cassie’s millions of fans have made Lady Midnight’s release one of the publishing events of the year. In Lady Midnight, Cassie takes readers back in to the dark and compelling world of the LA Shadowhunters, with its irresistible allure of mystery, danger, glitz and glamour. From the Sunset Strip to the beaches of Santa Monica, Clare has created an unforgettable LA setting in this heartrending opening to her Dark Artifices series.

How Cassie researches her settings, creates her characters and continues the adventures of the Shadowhunters will be explored in London’s Super Fan event. Will you be going to the event? Share your excitement in the comments below or go to @TMI_Institute and fangirl with us!
